Does fasting still count as penance if I am trying to lose weight?

Recently I have begun trying to lose weight by eating less. I have also - by coincidence - developed an interest in purgatory as well as the desire to avoid as much of it as possible and to assist the Holy Souls in purgatory by prayer and penance.

My question is, does fasting according to the Church guideline (1 normal meal supplemented by 2 smaller meals which do not together equal the regular meal and no snacks) count as penance if my motivation is partially to lose weight and partially to do penance?

Thank you very much for your help
