Does God have a name? Or, does the name God supposedly gave Moses at Sinai - YAHWEH or I AM WHO AM - simply a concession to man’s need for some kind of reference for the Almighty, in as much as CCC206 indicates that it is also “something of a refusal of a name.” I believe theologians also explain that to give God a name is to place limits on his person or true nature as eternal, omnipotent and beyond all comprehension. How are we to regard “YAHWEH?” IN the Philippines one priest banned the singing of the song, Yahweh, You Are Near" by Dan Schutte, SJ, in deference, he said to our Jewish brothers. Is that reasoning acceptable or faithful to magisterium?
