Does God put sickness on us to prompt us to repent? Or does he allow this to happen as a test?

God doesn’t cause sickness, rather God allows it. Remember that nothing in your life happens that isn’t divinely ordained for your salvation.

No,God does not. God created the world in perfect order, however in the act of original sin people stepped outside of that order. We now live in a fallen world where there is sickness, poverty, etc. God does not make us sick, but He does allow us to be sick because of that sin nature.

**Answer to your post is No! God does not intentionally put sickess on us.

Does He allow or permit it - the answer is Yes!

Why? For the salvation of our soul.

I have a chronic health issue that I thank God for every day - since it keeps me on my knees and within the arms of prayer. I also pray for His will to reign in my life.**

We live in a fallen world. Scripture says that in every circumstance give glory to God. Sounds like a wedding vow, in sickness and in health, richer or poorer, give glory to God. In sickness and difficulty we can draw down graces upon us, our families, and the world, and the world is in great need of them!

For the most part illness is a consequence of the fall of Adam and Eve. It is in our genes, so to speak. We are susceptible to germs and viruses. Our bodies get old and die. Through the Incarnation Jesus unites himself in our suffering so that we may in turn unite our sufferings with His.

There are some ways we punish ourselves and get sick: addictions, sloth, greed, lust, gluttony, etc.

I thought I’d mention that I just read a church text though I don’t believe it was an encyclical that said original sin though passed down is not a biological thing.
