I just want to know if truly God answers prayers, The recent turn around of event has really made me wondering if God really do answer prayer. I have passed through conditions and untold hardship, praying everyday that God should send someone to rescue me and my kids from this untold hardship and sickness but it seems that God refuses to answer to this prayer instead things are getting out of hand. But if anyone here feels different please let me know how you did your prayer for God to answer.

There are many people on this forum who can profess to Him answering prayers, myself included. I have often found the solution to the problems I pray about aren’t instantaneous`, it’s often when I’ve forgotten I’ve asked for His help when it comes along.
When going through a tough time here are some verses I like to remember: Acts 14:22 “We must go through many hardships to enter the kingdom of God,”; and John 16:33 “In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”. Keep strong in yourself and your faith and all will become well. I shall pray for you, and I hope things get better soon.

God bless.

God always answers prayers.
Sometimes the answer to prayer is “no”.
God does not always grant our wishes. People confuse the two.
If your prayer is not answered in the way that you would like it to be, that only means that God has something better in mind.
Part of prayer is trust.

What helped my wife and me was we began working on Practicing the Presence of God - described by Brother Lawrence in the 1600’s and in the online book at this site: ccel.org/ccel/lawrence/practice.i.html - you could probably read through it in an hour or two. But also then do what he describes - keep Jesus, the Father, the Spirit in your attention. Whenever you are about to do something, anything, speak to God and tell him you are doing this thing for him: “Jesus, I am about to go for a walk, and I am going to do it for you, a gift to you”; “Father, I am about to do the laundry, and I am going to do it for you, a gift.” “Lord, I am going to Mass now, and it is for you”. Then do the thing you told him was a gift, and when done, tell him, “God, here is your gift, complete, for you to use as you see fit.” All day long, having God present in all you think and do, and talking to him in it all.

We also got this little booklet by Peter Kreeft - “Prayer for Beginners” which ties in the Brother Lawrence’s booklet giving reasoning and practice in doing it (no link to this Kreeft book, so you would have to invest in it, but we think it is worth it.)

But, basically it takes you away from fixing yourself by trying to re-do yourself, and returns you to paying attention to the most important thing in your life (God) and doing things for Him, all things. And you begin to be a single minded person, not divided by emotions and passions. You come to know Jesus because you talk with him all day long and do things out of love for him all day long, and you come to realize he does know and love you.

Go to the website above and read it and try it.
What this does is that it takes you away from your focus on your self-fixing of feelings and the past, and your attention and focus begin to center on the Person who is the real source and goal of your being, and then the other things fall into place in an appropriate amount of attention rather than devouring you.

You will come to know this God and his answers.

Yes, God does answer prayers. Maybe not always the way we wanted, but what we needed. Remember, God answers in his time not ours.

If you God do really answer prayers and I and my kids have been praying for years and nothing is happening, my kids are out of school with one down with an ailment and still no response not even one soul considering to help or assist, then does that mean he wants some particular persons to suffer until death or the person has been taken out of mercy?

God is not a genie. He answers prayers, but not always the way we want and in my experience never instantaneously.

I have had experience with sickness. I suffered greatly for many years. I was in and out of hospital, unable to work, unable to support myself. God answered my prayers, but not by sending me a knight in white armour. He answered my prayers by giving me the strength to get through and by, after many years of suffering, granting me recovery from my illness. Even my recovery isn’t total - I will always struggle with it but it is not longer a risk to my life. If that changes and I find myself ill again then I will have the strength to live through it, or (hopefully) die with some dignity safe in the knowledge that this life is only passing and a firm hope in Gods mercy for the next. I consider that to be the true gift, not my healing.

It was very very difficult to live through that period but looking back I am glad that God choose the hard road for me. I didn’t feel that way when I was going through it though.

Have you gone to your parish to ask fro help? The Saint Vincent De Paul Society and other groups that work within parishes help a lot of people IF they know about them. Confide in a couple of the Sunday school teachers, the Parish Secretary, or the head of the Knights of Columbus in your parish.
If you don’t have a parish, start going to Mass and soon you will have a huge support system and resources, assistance, and additional prayers!
You can also seek help through your Diocese. Will pray that relief comes soon.

really got encouraged to pray more by all the comment, with hope that one day God would answer my prayers

Praying for all the blessings and joy that the Christ Child will bring in this holy season. May these things and the promise of salvation be a balm for your soul and your heart.
God bless you.

Luke 18:1 Then he told them a parable about the need to pray continually and never lose heart.

James 1:6 But the prayer must be made with faith, and no trace of doubt, because a person who has doubts is like the waves thrown up in the sea by the buffeting of the wind.

I don’t know what hardships you have but sometimes you need to pray more than once and sometimes I have known certain prayers are answered before others.

God always answers prayers but not necessarily in the way you want.

I am sorry for this. I have felt like this too. I was greatly helped when I started focusing some of my time and energy building relationships with others. I didn’t feel like doing it. It really helped me though.

Very discouraging. You cannot just switch doubt off.
When you pray is your mind saying that your prayer is a waste of time or do you believe God will answer you even if it is different to how you may want?

When I pray for humility I know God will grant me this Grace, how much I will receive I do not know but I don’t use prayer like a wild stab in the dark.
