Does Hebrews 11:1 support the assurance of salvation?

Hello,

I am an amateur apologist (I guess I can call me that as I’ve written an apologetic book titled: ‘That We Be One’).

My question has to do with the Protestant belief that salvation is assured, whereby Hebrews 11:1 is often quoted.

What is the Catholic teaching in this regard specific to this Scripture?

Although the Catholic Church does not have an official teaching on this passage, except that it uses it as the definition of faith in paragraph 146 of the Catechism, I don’t think it supports the Protestant doctrine of eternal security.

The assurance that the author speaks about concerns only those things that Jesus reveals to us in Sacred Scripture or Sacred Tradition. Faith is the theological virtue by which we believe everything Jesus says based on His authority.

Our individual salvation is not something that is a part of Divine Revelation. Consequently, it cannot be an object of faith. In other words, the bible does not say Karlo Broussard will be saved. As such, I cannot have absolute assurance that I will be saved. I can have a confident assurance, but not an absolute assurance.
