Does it count as a sin? (gore and sex scenes)

I like to play videogames, i am not addicted or anything, is just a hobby that i really enjoy, and i am well aware of the danger of pornography, i dont consume it, i dont seek or look for it and i always tell my friends about how harmful porn is, but in some of the videogames that i play i find some sex scenes here and there, i dont play games about sex, they are either Science Fiction or Medieval, but still some of them have those kinds of scene, and some other games have gore in them, people being blown to pieces and blood everywhere.

My question is, can i consume a videogame/movie that has a sex scene or a gore scene in it? does watching a movie with a sex scene count as porn? is even a sin to look at ridiculous gore scenes? its obviosly fake of course but i dont want to sin, my Pastor told me is ok but i dont trust his advice in things like that, and a random dude in a group chat told me that yes it is a sin to watch a movie that has gore and sex becuse it counts as porn and violence.

Until i get an awnser i wont consume any product with sex or extreme violence, i dont get nighmares or get exited over those kinds of scenes but i dont want to sin.

You don’t trust your pastor but you do trust a “random dude in a group chat.”

What?

i dont trust any of them in regard of this subject, but i like your comment, it gave me something to meditate about

IMO, it’d only be a sin for you, if viewing these scenes in these games causes you to think about/imagine (let alone carry out) immoral activities with another, or to dwell on/imagine carrying out violence against others whilst sincerely wishing you could, & /or causing you to seriously consider and plan on carrying out said violence against others.

if sex/gore scenes dont make me think or do anything sinful, i am allowed to watch the movie/ play the game that they are in? eveytime a sex scene jumps out of nowhere i skip it and before i had this doubt i usted to skip those scenes and ignore them.

Why don’t you trust priests? They’re the ones actually trained to help you discern these issues. It’s like saying you don’t trust your doctor with a medical question, you’d rather listen to some guy you met at the bar.

I’d probably skip the sex scenes simply because to me they don’t add anything really to the game …

There’s no sin watching war movies e.g. Gallipoli, Saving Private Ryan or Black Hawk Down, or even documentaries on the war, nor is there sin in participating in Historical re-enactments/dramas etc.

well i do trust priests but this one in particular (the one i confess the most becuse his parish is close to my house) gave me strange awnsers about some sensitive topics such as this one, sometimes i feel like his kinda “liberal” and “open minded” in a bad way, the stranger in the group chat was the only one who gave an anwnser that made sense but eveywhere i go i see other Catholics playing games like Fallout 4 (it has gore in it). i want to make sure i am not being paranoid, but its just thing about a hobby of mine so it does not matter that much

Thanks friend, i have been looking for awnsers for a long long time

I didn’t think to add the caveat which was in my first post ie that doing so does not cause you to sin in either thought or deed etc.

At least watching movie with gore isnt sinful rigth?
Saving Private Ryan, Black Hawk, Kill Bill etc…

Forgive my grammar, english is not my native language
and forgive my question, i think about his topic everyday

It’s movie that you are watching about the war. War is gorey/awful/dark/bleak/terrible. So the movie reflects this.

If you while watching this, begin to think along the lines of "yeah, get him get him, blow the … head off’, and think that’s the right thing to do, respond with glee, think it was deserved, nothing morally wrong in taking delight in inflecting pain and suffering and taking others lives … … … then would be the time to rethink your viewing. These types of thoughts are becoming unhealthy and uncharitable.

I think for some people this is where the danger can lie, as it no longer remains a movie about the horrors of war etc or what took place, and a reason to reflect upon what happened and what was wrong/right about it etc. But if the person agrees with it, enjoys it (the slaughtering of people) etc. then it has crossed the line over into sinfulness.

I play something between 1hour to 4hours, the rest of the day i am either studying or praying or helping to take care of the house, my prayer time changes everyday, sometimes i pray the Rosary in 30 minutes and other time i pray it in 1hour, but i am working on my prayer life, i am starting to develop a routine but i dont know how long it will last becuse thing aroud me are always changing (school and other activities for exemple)

And sometimes i lisen to podcasts and talks about various topics while i play videogames, i developed the art of paying atention to 2 thing at the same time and it works lol, learned a LOT while playing Minecraft and lisening to a class

I used to play Halo online and study for a jazz class with a friend.

That being said, you need to be working on forming your conscience more so that you aren’t asking people on the internet if you might have sinned.

Please talk to a priest about this again.
