I wish I had time to scan all the old threads, but I am a busy mom of three little ones, so here goes. Can pants be modest? I know some are more modest and some are less so, but should a woman who wants to dress in a dignified and respectful manner keep her pants at home?

All (name removed by moderator)ut is appreciated, but the male view would be especially helpful.

Ofcourse pants can (and usually) are modest unless they’re skin tight or of the low rise variety.

I think modesty has to do with not dressing in a way that distracts. Pants are fine, a burka is overkill.

I think pants can be modest, attractive, and feminine all at the same time. I’m thinking especially of polyester or poly blends that are more flowing. I have several pairs with wider pant legs and I wear them to church often with various things including silk tops, blazers and sweater coats. IMO pants can be modest.

I am interested in male viewpoints also.

I prefer pants and pantsuits to skirts or dresses. I am often called to give scientific talks to doctors and other medical people around the world. It may be strange, but I honestly don’t feel comfortable standing in front of 100 strangers while wearing a skirt.

No I don’t think pants should be excluded from modest dress as long as they fit well…not too well though…😉

While I love to wear dresses and skirts I’m also very comfortable in well tailored slacks
I do wear jeans in appropriate places…(church being inappropriate for me) as I always dress up for the Lord. :twocents:

NO COMMENT! :bigyikes:

sometimes you just have to walk around the trap…

As long as I don’t have to look at the pierced belly button, the exposed hipbones, the tatooed lower back or the butt cleft, then yes, that person may sit with or in front of me at Mass. 😃

I think that pants are fine and modest as long as they are not too tight. I think most pantsuits are relatively loose and do not show every shape of the woman. Pants are usually more modest than skirts or dresses any more.

It depends on what the alternative is.

Yes, pants are modest. I hope we are past the point where the outline of a woman’s knee causes unchastity in men and the vapours in other women.
