I’d be surprised if our Lt Col can’t answer that question. He’s a veritable fountain of Church and military Church history and has been in the military over 30 years.

We only have one Archdiocesan office, though, for all the branches. Anyone who receives a sacrament in a military chapel from a military priest falls under the military Archdiocese

Prior to 1985, the Archdiocese for the Military Services was known as the Military Vicariate, and was headquartered out of the Archdiocese of New York. Interestingly enough, John Cardinal O’Connor, himself a Navy Chaplain from 1952 to 1979, was the “go to guy” at one time when he was a Rear Admiral. O’Connor wasn’t named a bishop until after he retired from the Navy.

Currently, the Archdiocese for the Military Services is headquartered in Washington DC. Their bishops travel frequently, and their Archbishop has even spent holidays on carriers.

There are records at the churches she attended of first communion and confirmation with baptismal dates but no records exist as far as we’ve been able to find.

In my case my mom could not find my baptism records and didn’t remember the parish. When I checked the town they lived in, there were two dozen parishes. I called and called and no one seemed able to help me. I did remember where I received FHC. That parish secretary sent me information they had regarding the parish where I was baptized. It was in their records. She saved me a lot of time and frustration.
