Does Pope Benedict routinely celebrate EF masses?

Or is it all NO at the moment? I know there are EF masses in St. Peter’s Basilica, but does the Pope himself celebrate any EFMs?

It is rumored that he prays the Gregorian Rite(TLM) for his private Masses.

Many ask why he has not prayed the EF in public. I believe he will sometime this year. jmho

If his plan is to bring reverence back to the OF first, then I salute him for that as well. That may be why he has not prayed a public EF yet. He is certainly giving an indication this may be so seeing as though he administers Holy Communion on the tongue to those kneeling.

I would love to see a broadcast celebration of a papal EF.

I’d also love to see him celebrate publicly in all the rites of the Church, as the Pope is omniritual.

That would be a good idea only if the Pope was well-instructed in the rules and rubrics of saying mass in all of the rites.

Considering the large number of responsibilities involved in the office, becoming sufficiently informed in all of the rites is quite a task for any Pope.

I would think that, because the Pope is a Roman Catholic priest, he should only be expected to be instructed in the Roman Catholic rite, both Ordinary and Extraordinary forms.

That said, I think he would really be putting his money where is mouth is by saying an EF Mass at a large event like World Youth Day or on a trip to a large city. That would TRULY illustrate that the two forms are equal.

However, that might give ammunition to the “hate-on-the-Pope-for-bringing-back-an-antiquated-form-of-worship” crowd.
