Does Questioning God's Existence Result in Shallowness?

I have a theory that I’d like to bounce off people here.

I’ve noticed with my own experience that when I “believe in God” at some times but also “do not believe in God” at other times, I am stuck in one place. It is like having one foot on the dock and the other in the boat. But, once I decide to trust my faith, I’m able to go great distances exploring the fullness of the faith.

Does the act of questioning God’s existence cause us to be shallow in our faith?
 
It’s difficult to say. Questioning God’s existence has usually led me to quite fruitful philosophical research, which, in the long run, ended up strengthening my faith.

But it depends on the nature of the questioning - i.e., is it sincere or is it with a view to rejection?

I’d say that when we feel doubt about God’s existence and find it difficult to explore our faith, we can explore the question of God’s existence and the philosophical foundations underpinning our faith. That way, both states of mind will be fruitful.
