I’m not sure if I’m asking my question in the right category so I apologize before hand. I lost my way in faith for many years and have recently come back to it stronger then before. The problem is, (or shall I say good thing) is that I have many questions about my faith.
Something has been bothering me for awhile and I’ve had many conversations with friends and family members but still never came to an answer that I understood. A close friend of mine that I’ve known for years, has just recently come out saying that she’s lesbian. She was raised Catholic, and even went to catholic school up to 8th grade. Went through all the religious classes and was even confirmed. Like I said, my friend just came out to us within the past year or so.
Here’s my question, I learned through my journey of returning to my faith and reading up on everything I can get my hands onto is that it’s against our religion to be gay. However, I thought that we are all God’s creation and he loves each and everyone of us. Regardless of our problems or disabilities etc. I thought the greatest thing he wants of us is to find love and spend time with that loved one and live a happy life. Gays don’t just one day wake up and decide that they want to love someone of the same sex, it’s just who they are. It’s just who they are, just like me or anyone else who just knows they like people of the opposite sex. If that’s what will make them happy and they’re not hurting anyone, why does God reject them? Like I said, I thought God loves everyone regardless.
This is a very close friend of mine and I can’t help but constantly think if God is frowning upon me for being friends with her. Is it wrong to still be friends with her even though I know God doesn’t approve of her lifestyle?
I know this was a long question, but I would appreciate any suggestions and advice I can get! Thanks
Jenn
