What were you confessing?Thank you all for responses. One example of what was said is that I felt bad that I had several times been embarrassed to discuss my involvement with the Church. I felt that this was a form of denial of God. He said it wasn’t. I asked for guidance on proper way to confess and what should be confessed since what I had said he didn’t consider sin. What he said was good… About opening God’s grace, but he said it is not about punishment. Then he said it had to be revised. I then asked if he could suggest any books to read up on the subject. He said none come to mind. I like him don’t get me wrong. His homilies are a bit to left wing for me (pro occupy, anti iraq) but when he stocks to spiritual things he is good.
If you were confessing that you felt bad, then yes, your priest was correct in that it wasn’t a sin. Feelings in and of themselves are not sins, they are human conditions according to Fr. Chad Ripperger, FSSP. You can find several of his sermons on Sensus Traditionis under the multimedia page. He has some good stuff on making good Confessions. Note the penanceware clause, however.
