Does the Syro-Malabar Church practice infant christmation, baptism, and paedocommunion at the same time?

I have seen a “first holy communion” ceremony in the US, or at least photos of one. Is this a Latinisation or does the Syro-Malabar church not practice these 3?

I am aware that the Syro-Malankara Church has those 3, and then optional reception of Eucharist for the child until age of reason.

I beleive about five to six years ago (im not sure of the exact date, could even be early than that) the Syro Malabar Church removed the Latinization of seperating the sacraments. Now it is the norm to give all three sacramets of Baptism, Holy Communion, and Confirmation to the infant during the Mamodisa celebration.

I enjoy Thomas48’s posts too! 👍

Just curious Thomas48 - a question for you. In my own Byzantine - Ruthenian Church, we too restored the Rite of Initiation to encompass all three Sacraments. It has also now become commonplace for the Rite to be integrated with the Divine Liturgy (versus a private service, say on a Saturday). Of course, there is a practical pastoral advantage to this approach, as the Rite is performed when the Holy Eucharist will be readily available. I personally find this most fitting and appropriate, as it also allows the entire congregation to be present as the child is received into the parish community as well as the Church. Is it also true in the Syro-Malabar Church?

When the Latinizations were still in place, sacraments like Confirmation and Holy Communion were done in catechismal groups. For example all the children in the third grade catechism class would have their Holy Communion celebrated on a regular Sunday integrated into the Holy Qurbana. However, the sacrament of Baptism has always been a private celebration in the Syro Malabar Church. Now that all three sacraments are given during the time of the infant’s baptism, all the sacraments are in a sense “privatized” :p. We no longer have the integrated celebrations on Sunday except for the children born in generations where the Latinization still existed.

Going to chime in for the Syro-Malankara Church here, but we still practice delivering all 3 sacraments to the newly baptized/chrismated Christian child.

However, we still keep the Eucharist from children until they receive their Second “First Communion” after they reach the age reason. Would love to see our Church remove this Latinization and revert to our traditions.
