Does the word "Eucharist" refer to just the Host or to both species?

There are many different words or terms we use when referring to the two species that are distributed at communion. Some of the various terms are Body of Christ, Blood of Christ, Communion, Host, Precious Blood, etc.

Now I know that both the Body and Blood (as well as Soul and Divinity) of Jesus are present in both species, but there ARE certain terms that we use for the specific species. For example, the priest doesn’t say “The Body and Blood of Christ” when he is distributing the Host, he only says “The Body of Christ” even though both Body and Blood are present in the Host. Another example, the Precious Blood is never refered to as the “Body of Christ” even though both Blood and Body are present in each drop.

So when we use the word “Eucharist”, can it be used for both species or only for the host?

The term Eucharist has several different meanings. It is used to refer to the Mass. Also used to refer to Holy Communion. It is also used to refer to the Blessed Sacrament.

My preference is:

The “Eucharistic Liturgy” is The Sacrifice of the Mass.

The Consecrated Eucharistic elements or Eucharistic presence are The Blessed Sacrament.

The Host is **The Body of Christ. **(Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity)

The chalice contains The Precoius Blood. (Body,Blood, Soul, and Divinity)
