My husband and I are both Catholic and have been married for 20+ years. We did all that was required for a Catholic wedding; pre-marriage counselling, pre-cana, meetings with the priest, etc. We had a full mass for our ceremony. However, at the time of our marriage, we were both of age (21 for me and 25 for my husband) we were both in a state of mortal sin and did not partake in the sacrament of reconciliation prior to our marraige. We both were of sound mind, openly consented and open to children. Does this make our marriage invalid?

Hi,

It does not invalidate your marriage, but it is a further mortal sin to receive any sacrament while in the state of mortal sin. It was a very unfortunate way to begin your marriage.
