I thought I heard that it does, I am just curious. I often get dirty and have to clean my scapular which I started wearing a month or two ago. I used to wear a crucifix and have always been a necklace guy, but I switched because of the promise Mary made to those who wear it. Would wearing a miraculous medal or a crucifix have the same promise and is it okay to use it as a temporary “replacement” for doing dirty work?

You can also wear a scapular medal instead of the cloth. It has on the right side an image of Our Most Holy Redeemer, Jesus Christ, showing His Sacred Heart, and on the obverse, that of the Most Blessed Virgin Mary.

How to understand medals and scapulars? Spirituality
Isn’t wearing the brown scapular (and doing the other things that one also have to do) actually a Carmeite devotion? Why then do many non-Carmelites wear it? The miraculous medal seems less connected to a religious order. What is the difference between wearing a the brown scapular (either as a scapular or medal) and a the miraculous medal and the green scapular? Is it extremely important to wear it or can you just put it in your pocket? the green scapular I think can be put anywhere basically (…

Is it okay to wear a scapular medal instead of a cloth scapular? Spirituality
Hey everyone. I wear a brown cloth scapular but unfortunately every one I get breaks within a few months. Therefore, I bought a scapular medal and thought about wearing it instead. However, I read online that one shouldn’t wear the scapular medal instead of the cloth scapular unless one has a serious reason. Is that true?

Miraculous Medals and scapulars have a different focus.
Either one if worn devoutly will help you be close to Jesus and Mary.

However, you should not wear them because of “promises”. They are expressions of devotion and spirituality. The Brown Scapular is for those who wish to practice Carmelite spirituality. If you do not wish to focus on that, you should choose another devotional item to wear.

If you do wish to continue practicing Carmelite spirituality, but have concerns with wearing a cloth scapular because it gets too dirty or sweaty, then the Scapular Medal is the appropriate replacement.

It is also fine to wear a Miraculous Medal and indeed many including myself wear both the Brown Scapular and the Miraculous Medal, but they aren’t substitutes for each other. Likewise it is fine to wear a crucifix or a cross but it doesn’t substitute for scapular or Miraculous Medal.
