No tradition of a butter lamb nor sugar lamb, but my mother has a mold to annually bake a lamb-shaped cake. Yum. 😛

Now that sounds better! At least you can eat your lamb, my lamb just sits there all moldy and melted looking. It’s kind of depressing. But cake, that’s not depressing at all :D.

I always make butter lambs and cakes and give them to our priests and religious.

Hey isn’t this jumping the gun just a little? We’re not even at Ash Wednesday yet. Goodness. But anyway, since it’s up on the board now, here’s a nice Swieconka basket link (Hubby’s mostly Polish),here . Enjoy.🙂
.
Thank you great site and I will use it for Easter.

Wow! This is so cool! I had never heard of Dyngus Day! Thanks for sharing! Wish I could be there! ~Therese 🙂
Dyngus Day is the bestest! 👍 My bride and daughter know they need to beware on Easter Monday! 😛

You can join us. It’s about a 5 hour ride. Plenty of hotels and plenty of festivities. A Polish Mardi Gras if you will, without the debauchery.🙂

Yes to both questions. 👍 Actually, it is just a “regular” lamb, but we still enjoy it!

All the grocery stores around here sell butter lambs at Easter Time. I actually never knew it was an old Polish tradition.

Yes after some internet searching of every Catholic church in Austin after I moved here, I finally found a church that does the food blessing. A very small group of people attend, but I was glad to find a way to introduce my child to my tradition.

Do you purchase an Easter butter lamb (symbolizing Christ) for your Easter meal? Here is a picture: andreasrecipes.com/2008/03/04/butter-lamb-for-easter/

Yes! There’s a local Russian store in Austin called Sasha’s which imports Polish food items from Chicago. At Easter time they have the sugar and butter lambs. (And all the pierogi, uszka, and kielbasa that I love too!)
