Does your parish have a Vocations weekend?

Just curious, because my parish has something like this during the summer (bbq style) and around the holiday time, for men ages 18-40, to meet other ‘discerning’ men, and the Bishop is usually there, as well…although, Bishop Weurhl is no longer our Bishop, not sure who will be attending these now…most likely the priests and director of our local seminary. Sort of like a ‘social’ for men considering the priesthood.

So–does your parish have something similiar?

Hi Caesar…is there anything in your area like this? I should rephrase my above post…my parish is INVOLVED with other parishes in our area, with regards to having socials for men discerning the priesthood…sorry! lol

Not that I know of.

The Diocese runs a weekend retreat for high school students once a year in november, but it is not geared for vocations. In fact, most of the people I’ve talked to who went on it met their boyfriends/girlfriends there.

Other than that, all the retreats in the Diocese that I know you have to be over the age of 20.

hmmm…yeah, this is not a retreat…it’s just a few hours…i don’t think there is any time spent overnight…

Yes, my diocese has something similar and actually we have prayer for vocation and BBQ on 28 Oct.

Usually, we have 2-day vocation discernment recollection every 3 month (Feb, May, August and November) and there’ll be 3-day retreat in December. Honestly, I’m very impressed by the seminarians, because they are the one who organise the events and so far it’s been great. They even have poster for it.

Some religious order have annual recollection/talk, mostly one day only.

We have a thing like that here. But it is done not by parish but in our school. Our highschool Spiritual moderator talks to every student on our school. And those who said that they are interested to be a religious are invited to a 2 day activity in the seminary. The seminarians are the one facilitating these kinds of events. The students who took part lived somewhat like a seminarian for a day, and there are talks by priests and other religious. But there are also single and married people who gave talks too.
