Our priests say it in the Church every morning and evening except for Saturday evenings and Sundays. The lay people are welcome to join them. I have done so from time to time. There are also a few other ladies who come, too. It’s nice. 🙂
 
My parish does but only because I started it out of my own desire. There are 2 other people who recite with me.

If you want it done then ask the priest if you can start a group yourself.
 
Yes…but the church I frequent happens to be the basilica that I can walk to in 3 minutes because it is part of my campus which is a Benedictine college, so I guess I’m cheating…

As for the parish I go to when I am “home,” no…not a one in the area. I’m only “home” about 1-2 months a year. I also serve as an intern at another monastic community, so I’m pretty much imbedded in the Liturgy of the Hours 10 months a year. Yay!

You could get by with Shorter Christian Prayer, I think. (I use Christian Prayer.) But the Little Office of the Blessed Virgin Mary is the same idea, but it only has a one-week cycle of psalms, rather than a four-week cycle, and the readings are different.

I think that the Little Office of the Blessed Virgin Mary is an excellent introduction to the concept of Liturgy of the Hours, because it’s way easier to figure out, since it’s a lot simpler - and once you grasp the concepts found in the Little Office of the Blessed Virgin Mary, you’re more than half-way to “getting” the Liturgy of the Hours - it makes a whole lot more sense. So, the Little Office of the Blessed Virgin Mary can be a “stepping stone” between the Rosary and the Liturgy of the Hours, conceptually. 🙂

I wonder if it would make sense for parishes that don’t have the Liturgy of the Hours to do the Little Office of the Blessed Virgin Mary for a period of time until people get the idea behind it? And then when they start to want more (because repeating the same prayers week after week is going to become tiresome for some people) you can then introduce them to the Liturgy of the Hours. (Having explained to them beforehand that the Little Office of the Blessed Virgin Mary is based upon the Liturgy of the Hours, and is a simplified version of that).

You might then split into two groups - one group would carry on with the Little Office, and the other group would do the Liturgy of the Hours, and that way, those not comfortable with moving to the Liturgy of the Hours would still have the Little Office, and those new to the concept could join with those praying the Little Office, to start with, and then choose whether to move into the Liturgy of the Hours when they feel the need for more. (You wouldn’t require that, though - if someone wanted to go directly to Liturgy of the Hours, they could do that, too.)

I’m just throwing that out there as an idea. I don’t know whether it would work in real life. 🙂
 
And seriously, anybody thinking of starting LotH really needs the little St Joseph guide, and the freedom to skip all the optional stuff and just stick to the four week psalter until the rhythm starts to sink in. It’s really neat to follow the liturgical year and saints and all, but it’s complicated enough at first without all that. In fact, I tend to think that people who want to start should go with daytime and night prayer instead of morning and evening, since they are more straightforward. I love love love Friday daytime.
