My parish generally only uses altar servers during the Sunday (and Saturday Evening) Masses. Daily Masses the priest will simply be unassisted. Funeral Masses sometimes will have adult altar servers to assist.

In my college newman chapel we only used altar servers for big liturgies such as the Triduum and Confirmations.

Sunday masses, funerals and weddings.

(It’s kind of a shame – When I was a server, getting out of class to serve the daily Mass was one of the perqs of being a server)

Parishes that don’t use altar servers for daily masses --especially those with schools–miss an opportunity to encourage vocations. I’d like to see the older men in casual attire (track suits, polo shirts and shorts) stay in the pews and properly clad altar boys (with patens at communion time) assisting the priest. It would add a much needed element of reverence to the mass.

Yes. We use Altar Boys and they use Patens. I don’t know of a Church in my vacinity that does not use Altar Servers. We may be the only Church in my Diocese that uses only boys, but I could be wrong.

We had a server just this week on Tues at daily mass, so either it was a fluke or we are tending more towards servers at daily mass.

Patens - what ever happened to them? I remember using them as a youth when I was an altar boy. What a great sign of respect for the eucharist with some practicality too.

My Parish uses Altar Boys…not servers…we also use Patens, rails, etc…I love my Parish 😃
