Doesn't it seem a little bit quiet in here?

Not to say that there’s NO activity, but it’s been a long time since someone’s come here to challenge the faith or anything. I may be missing it, but I thought that some of the other people who weren’t Catholic and who were putting their two cents in, even though they were getting kinda annoying, they had some , good arguments., and it really kept this forum lively. Now, I know that we’re keeping to the subject of this forum, which is non-catholic religions, but what about people actually making objections.

My apologies. 😉 If I’d found this forum a few years back I could have been chief argument causer. At one point I totally hated Catholicism with all its lies, falsehood, greed, popery, Mary worship and everything else that would lead its followers straight to hell unless they repented and joined a proper church.

Catholicism hasn’t changed. But I have and so have my views. And here I am starting RCIA and because of my continued reading and study those leading it aren’t going to get quite so many objections from me as I thought! I still have lots of doctrinal issues to work through and might end up asking questions if this site and others don’t provide answers or if friends get too clever in trying their best to keep me saved and away from the ‘whore of Babylon’.

But I apologise - I’m not up to arguing anymore. I generally find I was wrong when taking the courage to step out of what I’ve been taught and look at things without a veneer of hatred or prejudiced rejection.

One day soon I’ll write a list of all the things in Catholicism that I believed, or was led to believe, were wrong. And then cross them off the list as the objections continue to fall away. If you really want I can argue them out in the forum but the arguing might be very half hearted.

Blessings

I second that. It’s quiet…almost TOO quiet…

But maybe that’s just me. I think these forums are entirely too nice. I don’t want it to be endless flame wars, but people are so sweet and nice I have to go over to the Protest Warrior forum every now and then just to work out my aggression.

I think they would be in Apolegetics
Are people allowed to debate in the Apologetics forum (I have no idea what the board is about)?

Wow, what a coincidence. That’s exactly what I did. I went back to this group I was in at Yahoo that I left because things were too rowdy in there.

It is getting very quiet here. I liked the debates with the protestants.

maybe it is because Edwin is so polite, verbose, but polite.

And here I was getting annoyed with the fact that people weren’t being nice. I guess it just depends on which threads you’re checking out.

Well the forum is described as:

Apologetics
Doctrines and morals, Scripture, historical issues, controversy

Hi all!

What about debates with orthodox Jews (who are very interested in interfaith dialogue with Catholics)?

Be well!

This may prove that posters in CA are a bit “nicer” (or cordial) to each other when compared with those in other discussion sites.

Hmm…I’m always up for debate, but currently I only have internet access at my weekday job, so it’s the only time I can sign on, and I’m usually also on 1 or 2 other forums while trying to work at the same time.

That, and I’ve been told several times (though it might have been by the same one or 2 people) that these forums aren’t made for debating…which I really didn’t listen to them anyway since I feel the point of the forums are for discussing and debating different viewpoints

Everyone’s opinions here are intersting. I love it quiet and polite. I left another forum because of the fighting, unkindness and name calling…besides I get enough of that when my kids get home from school!

I’m lovin’ the peace!!!

Thank God! It was getting exhausting with some of those non-Catholic members who were posting controversial messages and never responding to anything that contradicted their own positions. I was praying that they would just go away! Maybe they did! And maybe, God answered my prayers! :gopray2:

This forum is important. It creates a neutral place to discuss issues. I don’t post often in this forum, but I treat reading the discussion differently then if it is was in the apologetics forum.

I’m not in the business of converting people to my own religion, so I don’t pose challenges save in retaliation to being challenged myself.

Heathern Dawn,

I want to know why Muslims write about Jesus, know that Jesus lived and say Jesus was a Holy man, yet some Muslims contend that Jesus was 100% man and not Diety while some Muslims say Jesus was 1/2 Man and 1/2 Diety.

How was it that Mohammad knew of Jesus but just took parts of Christianity and started a new Religion?

I ask this of you since I think you have studyed the Koran.

Peace be with you Heathen Dawn,

May God bring you peace and blessings. Amen.

I noticed you posit that you are a Wiccan (i.e. Pagan). I was in Las Vegas in the summer and I walked into an egyptian crafts store to look at all the very interesting egyptian statues. I was looking to pick up something neat for my wife, who loves egyptian things. Well, as I entered the store a young lady approached me. I noticed right away she appeared under the influence of something (perhaps alcohol). She got in my face and said “What is the deal with Jesus, I mean, he’s a man from 2000 years ago and like what is that compared with Isis? I mean, is a man who lived 2000 years ago more important than The Goddess?”

As a practicing Catholic I was concerned with what to say. I simply said, I don’t know anything about God’s and Goddesses’ because My God was beyond any conventional dualisms such as “male” or “female” and that anyone who finds it necessary to “project” a sex upon God was in essence worshipping themselves.

I knew from the look on your face that she wasn’t clear as to my meaning and so in order to avoid any further escalation I simply moved on with my shopping but I still feel, perhaps there was a reason that I meant her in that store. I sometimes feel that I should have taken more time to dialog with her but I choose not to. Do you know what she was attempting to point out concerning Jesus? Is there a particular argument within Wiccan Circles which refute Christianity? Why do you think is it so popular with young girls?

I hope that I am not offending you in any way or placing you on the spot asking these questions but I figured that you are here hanging out with a bunch of Catholics for something so maybe you want to be understood?

May God bring us greater insight and understanding. Amen.

Peace, Love and Blessings,
