I went to a Catholic “memorial mass” this week end for a Sister of Mercy. She was in her 80’s and had donated her body to science so there was no body at the memorial mass. Just her Bible, prayer book, ring and pin on a table with some candles.

How does the church feel about donating one’s body to science? She was vocal about some things she didn’t like about the church but she served with tenacity and dedication…she worked the day she died.

Personally, I think donating your body to science is an act of good will. I mean, from dust to dust so why not make use of this corpse before it turns to dust. Our body is our temple and we should respect this temple but the temple is there to do good for others as well. I think the body should’ve been there at least before giving it to science though.
