Don't Catholics really worship images?

Catholic apologists often say that we don’t worship images. But Catholic theology makes a distinction between absolute worship and relative worship. Aquinas in his Summa says that we are to worship images of Christ and the saints, although in a relative sense. So doesn’t this mean that we technically worship images, and not merely use them in worship?
