Oh neat! I bet it was the Church Fathers who brought him home 😉
 
It’s Clyde Pearce. He was a bishop. He left the LDS church quite late in life, then became Catholic.

He just said something that I want to ask about here. He commented that the LDS Church is constantly re-writing its history (that’s true), and said that the LDS leadership has asked members to turn in their copies of the Journal of Discourses to the church for destruction, as members are now forbidden to read it.

Anyone else heard about that?
 
I have a friend who just left and she was asked to give her JofD to the bishop… she didn’t do it though. 😉

I have no heard this.

But I can well bet and believe it.

I do know that the GA’s have distance themselves from them.

I can remember them as a big set for sell at the BYU Bookstore
 
Amazingly - at Amazon.com the 27-volume set costs $699.95, but if you have a Kindle, you get get the Kindle version for $9.95 :hmmm:

Well, there you go. Mormons will have to go underground to read the conference talks from 1889. That is so Orwellian, wow.

For those of you that may be interested, it looks like the same show will be repeated at 12 midnight (central time)

I have my DVR set. (boy I love my DVR)
 
I asked on a different forum.

The reply I got was that, no, membership has not been asked to turn them in but have stressed that they are not canon.

It was also said that the church no longer publishes it either.

I dont know if any of this is true. Just what was said.

I doubt that, because the JoD os not published by Deseret Book (the LDS church-owned publishing house) but is listed as “Privately Printed”. The JoD must be in the public domain, which means the LDS church cannot suppress its printing or distribution. Any attemp at a ban could mean a huge sales boom for that private printer. The best way to get people to read something is to forbid them to read it.
