Hello, I was wondering, so I had this thought about someone next to me during mass. It was an impure thought so me being me I said no to it. But then it kept eating at me for a few seconds and I gave in and glanced for less then a second. Now I don’t know what I should do and I’m really scared I might not get to recieve communion at Easter And i really want to.
Thanks
G

In order for it to be a mortal sin, three conditions must be met.
  1. Grave Matter: The act itself is intrinsically evil and immoral.
  2. Full Knowledge: The person must know that what they’re doing or planning to do is evil and immoral.
  3. Deliberate Consent: The person must freely choose to commit the act or plan to do it.
That being said, you should discuss this with your regular confessor. No one on this forum can possibly know whether or not you sinned mortally.

you should discuss this with your regular confessor.
Yes, just go to confession. Even if I don’t believe what you did to be a grave sin, a priest will be able to dispel any doubts you have AND give you absolution.
Also, a very warm welcome to the CAF.

So I shouldn’t receive communion if I don’t get to confession in time.

You need to talk to a priest about this either way. We cannot help and it sounds like you may suffer from scruples.

If all three sections aren’t fulfilled for it to be Mortal it becomes Venial but it has to be confessed ofcourse.

The link could be a help. Something on Venial and Mortal sin from Fr Mike Schmitz

P.s Easter is the best time to cleanse the soul and on Divine Mercy Sunday so I strongly encourage for you to go and there’s nothing to be ashamed about if you’re nervous, the priest has probably heard it all

Ok so I dont HAVE to receive on Easter day but during the Easter season.

Anytime between the Vigil and Pentecost (inclusive), yes.

Don’t be scared. Do speak to your priest.

A section of Section #2042 of the Catechism of the Catholic Church

“The third precept (“You shall receive the sacrament of the Eucharist at least during the Easter season”) guarantees as a minimum the reception of the Lord’s Body and Blood in connection with the Paschal feasts, the origin and center of the Christian liturgy.”

Guys, stop telling this person what to do. They need to talk to a priest. I understand the obligation explanation but it won’t help their possible scruples.

Agreed with @UpUpAndAway don’t be scared trust me they’d probably be happy that you are confessing your sins and allowing Jesus to give you grace and a second chance. And once you confess it even just saying “Impure Thoughts” the temptation/sin will probably be a bit more “distant” and easier to handle. Always say a quick prayer or even a Hail Mary when you think you will be overcome by temptation

If someone is scrupulous, it doesn’t help them for a lot of people to give them advice. This just drives their compulsions. Internet forums are not the place to deal with matters of conscience, especially since the majority of people on internet forums are not trained to handle the formation of conscience.
