But since it’s a thing that was mostly done in the past, I’ll post it here.

The people who lived in the desert, who lived an ascetic life, how did they get their mortal sins absolved?

So I remember reading about some saints who lived for years in the desert, alone, devoted to God. If they mortally sinned, would they go all the way back to civilization to find a priest who will absolve them?

Cheers! 🙂

They had a couple of options. One is, don’t commit a mortal sin. Anyone who could live a life of near-complete asceticism probably had a certain amount of grace to handle that state, and they might have been stronger than others as far as resisting temptation goes.

If they did commit a mortal sin, they might not have to go all the way back to civilization – they’d just have to find a hermit who had been ordained and then confess to him. Sometimes it may have happened that two ordained hermits would agree to meet once a year for confession – so that would be an option too. But if neither of those options worked, then I guess yeah they’d have to go back across the desert to find somebody to confess to. But I don’t think it would be that big of a deal. They couldn’t be more than three days into the desert because there aren’t enough enormous deserts to go to. So they could just make the trek out, do their confession thing, probably pick up some supplies, and then get back into their hermitage.

God’s ten commandments have always been there to guide people.
God has used so many ways to reconcile humans to Himself.

The difference between good and evil was always ever laid on people’s conscience,- even now.
Prophets prophesied about the coming of Jesus.

And even when he came, as God the Son and Man to teach the same same word, based on the 10 Commandments, to reveal who God the Father is, and how to follow His ways and how to go to Him, many still didn’t and don’t believe.

God knows different generations and He knows the power and magnitude of evil that would end up destroying souls at future generations.

Sacraments that we have today, 7 sacraments in Catholic church, are the graces given to us, at our times so they can help us to overcome the powers of evil at our time.
They will always be there, because God never changes His plan of Saving us, Human.

What’s different?
Maybe the bible alone was enough weapon at some past generation, but now the bible and the sacraments are necessary; and Prayers, as means to talk to Him.

Prayers like the Rosary, are necessary too. I love when St. Dominic foretold, “Mary will give to my order, a weapon, “The Rosary” and to St. Agnes he said, “Mary will give a scapula”. With this weapons, she will help us overcome the evils in our time”

Different prayers at different times, like Devine Mercy and many more.

My thought,
God is always standing besides us, He knows what we need when we need it and He is always helping us to remain His children; giving us different graces to help us go to Him after our Journey.
If you read different apparition messages of the past or now, Jesus would tell the seer that Satan does not like when people spread certain devotions, or this devotion will destroy Satan’s ways, or it will convert souls(Example, Sacred Heart Devotion).

He was always there to help at the times those saints went to the wilderness, He used their meditations and prayers and afforded them all the graces that helped them go to heaven.

So, when Satan changes His game, We have to worry NOT, For as long as we are on His light, He will fight for us, Just as He did for the Saints.
