Doris Day grew up in Cincinnati. All of her grandparents were German immigrants. She was raised Roman Catholic, but converted to Christian Science. She requested no funeral, memorial, or grave marker. Apparently, she hated the thought of death and could not reconcile herself even to her beloved animals dying. What are your thoughts on her passing? Here is a quote from Doris Day. May she rest in peace!

Day was born into a Catholic family,[1], but never felt a deep connection with religion until she was introduced to Christian Science by her second husband. She said her new faith “brought spirituality into my life, spirituality that would sustain me through some very dark times.”[2]

She had an unbelievable amount of tragedy, worry and disaster in her life. Her father reportedly cheated on her mother and they divorced when Doris was a child. I can see why any Catholic training didn’t stick. I will pray for her and not judge her because of all the Hollywood bios I ever read, hers was one of the worst.

I didn’t know about the divorce. Very unusual in the Catholic world of the 1920s. I know she was married four times. She hated the image of herself as virginal, pure, and holy. It was a huge psycholgical burden. Her only son died of cancer. Rest in peace!
