I know one thing, it will certainly help you to appreciate the readings at mass. Often, the readings in the missalette are written slightly different enough to make you think about the meaning.

Let me give an example from last Sundays readings…

D-R translation…

This made me think about the word solicitous. It actually means more than being anxious.

“Be nothing solicitous”

In other words, don’t make being solicitous part of your being. Makes sense! 👍
In the Rheims NT this would be:

Be nothing careful: but in euery thing by praier & supplication vvith thankesgiuing let your petitions be knovven vvith God. And the peace of God vvhich passeth al vnderstanding, keepe your hartes and intelligences in Christ IESVS.

You’re taking the citation from the sources you linked above right?

Veritas and New Advent’s online version uses solicitous… which basically means both careful and anxious…

The simple answer to the difference is: I quoted from the 1582 Rheims NT, while your quote comes from the Challoner Rheims NT (the version found in New Advent and Veritas BTW). 🙂

At my FSSP parish, my priest recommended this bible for our new bible study class - it’s a Douay-Rheims with Haydock commentary. Father said that if you are going to study the bible, this is absolutely the best bible to have. He showed us pages that literally had 10 lines of scripture in two columns and 3/4 page or more of commentary.

😃

You didn’t notice it when people use the Bible quote system here at CAF? 🙂 Just type in the scripture reference and then click on the :bible1: button on the top right of the post window Brother.
[bibledrb]John 2:5[/bibledrb]
[BIBLEDRB]John 3:16[/BIBLEDRB]

I never knew. How awesome is that and the DR is my favorite bible.

The Douay Rheims is a wonderful Bible! I have the one from Baronius, & I find it is the clearest & most faithful translation from the Latin that I have ever found.
Along with the RSV-CE, its my favorite Bible.
