a) were not to judge anyone so that means i can barely have an opinion on someone

b) we are supposed to be free yet when i sin i feel condemned and the weight of damnation non stop

c) we are to love people yet not associate with people who are bad so which is it do we mingle amongst them or not?

d) i cant seem to except luxury items anymore because of the eye of the needle passage

just small things that make me want to cry i am not leaving the faith but i feel like sometime my mind opens up when i get out of all the doctrine i feel like sometimes im the one playing God and making decisions on myself rather than live and let the holy spirit convict me

i keep wondering to myself what if i stopped going to mass and became a cradle catholic so to speak but more advanced than that, surely that would be ok

i feel like i play games in my head regarding confession

also i feel like im lossing my rational mind because im making unrational decisions because i believe in God which i do, but i cant tell if this is reasonable or rational such as quitting work

Jn:3:15-17
“For God so loved the world, as to give his only begotten Son: that whosoever believeth in him may not perish, but may have life everlasting. For God sent not his Son into the world, to JUDGE the world: but that the world may be saved by him.”

According to this, Jesus was saying that “judge” means “condemning” to hell. There are many situations where to have to make judgments about people. But this doesn’t mean that we are condemning them to hell.

We are free to make decisions but we are not free of the consequences our decisions bring with them. I am free to jump off a building, but I’m not free of the consequence defying the law of gravity. God’s laws were made to help and protect us…not Him. If we want good in our life then we follow laws made for our good.

I believe the real objection is that it is hard to follow the good laws and we are lazy and we want to be spoiled so that life is as easy as falling off a log. But anything worthwhile almost always requires effort and discipline. Those that are good in sports did not get that way by being a couch potato.

Jesus came to save sinners and not saints. To do that he mingled with the sinners and was criticized for it. But he was strong and could hold his own. If we are strong then we can mingle with them too to influence them for the better. But as Cling Eastwood said in one of his movies, “A man has to know his limitations”.

And in regard to luxury items … all things in moderation. Leisure, sports, play is good for us in order to keep us fit and healthy. We need to relax and enjoy… in moderation.

Just be straight forward in confession and say simple and as best you can. After all, it really is talking to God who knows it all. Just be sincere.

I hope you feel better and have some fun.

In relation to my life:

a) a humble soul will always pray for that someone instead of thinking bad thoughts about them.

b) Every time I sin i know I am hurting my relationship with Jesus. This feeling of guilt makes me remember the sin and that’s why I go to confession and restore my relationship with Jesus

c) The problem is I also mingled with people who are bad and they ended up influencing me as well, which made me end up with a lukewarm faith

d) well if luxury items were given to me as gifts then I would have to accept them. But I never aspire for luxury items nor material wealth. I try to keep my life as simple as possible because this gives me more time for prayer. Having lots of luxury items is like having lots of distractions in your spiritual life

Perhaps it may help to clarify some of these perceptions.

a) We are not to judge anyone’s soul. We are certainly called to judge the objective value of actions.

b) Yes, you have free will to choose evil. I do not follow why guilt eliminates your free choice. I’m free to walk off a cliff, but I’ll die - that doesn’t mean I’m still not free to do it, regardless of any bad consequences that result from the choice. And don’t forget the ultimate freedom - the freedom to say Yes to the Lord. This is true freedom. :o

c). You can associate with people who are “bad” if you mean they exhibit vices - but it can eventually become harmful to you if their influence permeates into your life. But your good example can be helpful to them, just as Jesus dined with sinners. But yes, there is a point where you shake the dust off your shoes and go somewhere else when your company rejects the virtue you exemplify.

d) The Navarre Bible commentary refers to this richness as those who put their “hearts on worldly things”. See also this thread on the rich man and camel verse, especially posts #2 and #8 and #20.

ok thank you for your replies brothers and sisters it has helped, i am shaken at the moment with my faith, i feel like i keep trying to do good but when i do bad and slip the other side of the path takes over and i fight with myself , i have come far in my faith, i have received the eucharist so much over the past years, joined the Knights of Columbus and read the bible etc. i am very christian and sometimes when i just sip a beer or two the former life takes over, also i struggle with self hatred of sin, i detest myself at times because of my own sin like the small things, in character or actions,

i got injured at work, at a time where i was not feeling content with work, is it safe to say that jesus injured me for me to leave that place of work? that is my belief now, so although i am home and not working i am not sad because i feel jesus let it happen or “did it”

Jesus doesn’t harm us. Ever.
But you may think of it as a way to stop, slow down, and consider if this place is right for you.
Or, perhaps you need to rethink your unhappiness at the job and start being thankful for a job.
It can go either way.
I do believe that God has given you these moments to discern and consider the right path for you to take.
Take it to Him in prayer, perhaps in Adoration at your parish, or a nearby parish. Maybe even speak with a priest, get some solid advice one way or another. 'I wish you well, dear one.

Yes, to all the good advice and here, I’m sending some prayers for strength, faith, peace, hope and love…

Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name.
Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses,
As we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou among women
And blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God,
Pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit,
As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be world without end. Amen.

a) were not to judge anyone so that means i can barely have an opinion on someone

Love the sinner, hate the sin. We can judge actions, we can stand up for the truth, we can’t judge a person since we can’t know all the influences on them.

b) we are supposed to be free yet when i sin i feel condemned and the weight of damnation non stop
Good you have a conscience and awareness and desire to please God. God knows we are all sinners, He knows its a struggle, remember He forgave the thief on the cross next to Him in the last minutes of that man’s life, remember the parable of the workers in the field…

c) we are to love people yet not associate with people who are bad so which is it do we mingle amongst them or not?
We mingle with them and try to influence them in a positive way. We take care not to spend all our time with them to keep ourselves from being influenced in a negative way. Balance, we find those who help us affirm our faith, we reach out to others to share that faith.

Sirach 14, 3-19

Wealth is not appropriate for the mean-spirited;*
to misers, what use is gold?
What they deny themselves they collect for someone else,
and strangers will live sumptuously on their possessions.
To whom will they be generous that are stingy with themselves
and do not enjoy what is their own?

None are worse than those who are stingy with themselves;
they punish their own avarice.
If ever they do good, it is by mistake;
in the end they reveal their meanness.

Misers are evil people,
they turn away and disregard others.
The greedy see their share as not enough;
greedy injustice dries up the soul.
The eye of the miserly is rapacious for food,
but there is none of it on their own table.

My son, if you have the means, treat yourself well,
and enjoy life as best you can.
Remember that death does not delay,
and you have not been told the grave’s appointed time.
Before you die, be good to your friends;
give them a share in what you possess.

Do not deprive yourself of good things now
or let a choice portion escape you.
Will you not leave your riches to others,
and your earnings to be divided by lot?

Give and take, treat yourself well,
for in Sheol there are no joys to seek.
All flesh grows old like a garment;
the age-old law is: everyone must die.
As with the leaves growing on a luxuriant tree—
one falls off and another sprouts—
So with the generations of flesh and blood:
one dies and another flourishes.

All human deeds surely perish;
the works they do follow after them.

These are not double standards, they are false dichotomies.
a) were not to judge anyone so that means i can barely have an opinion on someone
There is a difference between passing judgment on a person’s soul, and the virtue of prudence. We must make prudential judgments about people and situations all the time, but we are not able to judge a person’s standing before God.
b) we are supposed to be free yet when i sin i feel condemned and the weight of damnation non stop
Jesus Christ has redeemed us. Redeemed means to “pay a price for”. It is finished, as our Lord himself said. Your feelings cannot change the redemption that Christ has accomplished. As you come to accept this free gift, your feelings will change. You can be healed of shame. It is a long process. Be patient. Pray. Ask.
c) we are to love people yet not associate with people who are bad so which is it do we mingle amongst them or not?
Use your best judgment. It is usually best to avoid people and situations that lead us to sin. Putting yourself in harms way is not loving someone else.
d) i cant seem to except luxury items anymore because of the eye of the needle passage
It’s not how many possessions you have, it’s how attached you are to them.

I feel similarly to you sometimes. You can dislike or not associate with someone. If you are kind to someone do it out of kindness, not to make them like you. Maybe take your faith step by step. There is a lot of truth in the bible and at times it can be demanding and overwhelming. No body responses perfectly all the time. Just try your best.
