Hi

As many of you know that iam a non christain believing in Jesus. I donot believe that other Gods exist. I am still single. In case if I get married to a non christain, will it be sin if I stand before the idols and i still pray to Jesus other than praying to idols , because i believe that they donot exist and it is only for the sake of my future husband i will give an impression that iam praying to idol but i will be praying to Jesus in fact.

Thanks
Anu

Dear Anu,

I hope you are not the person you referred to recently who is being forced into marriage!
I shuddered when you spoke about your future husband, and what that might mean as you want to pray to Jesus. Why would you marry a man who does not share your faith? Do you want to be unequally yoked? Do you have free choice in this?

Anyway, this is a scriptural example that may be helpful.
Daniel 3:
13 Furious with rage, Nebuchadnezzar summoned Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego. So these men were brought before the king, 14 and Nebuchadnezzar said to them, “Is it true, Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, that you do not serve my gods or worship the image of gold I have set up? 15 Now when you hear the sound of the horn, flute, zither, lyre, harp, pipes and all kinds of music, if you are ready to fall down and worship the image I made, very good. But if you do not worship it, you will be thrown immediately into a blazing furnace. Then what god will be able to rescue you from my hand?”
16 Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego replied to the king, “O Nebuchadnezzar, we do not need to defend ourselves before you in this matter. 17 If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God we serve is able to save us from it, and he will rescue us from your hand, O king. 18 But even if he does not, we want you to know, O king, that we will not serve your gods or worship the image of gold you have set up.”
You will be in my prayers!

Yes Iam the person who asked about the forcible marriage. I loved some one and he was a christain. My parents agreed for me to convert only in case if i get married with him. And this marriage could not happen and he was forced to marry other girl. Now my problem is i cannot get baptized as my parents will oppose for it. And i cannot pray to other Gods. I do not have freedom to go away beyond my parents choice as we some family issues. I am very much in a confused state.

I am so sad to hear this, and wish I could comfort you in some way to ease your pain and give you new hope. The only thought that comes to mind is to let you know that in spite of everything failing you in the natural, God holds you in His heart and will find a way to bring you some day to the faith you desire.

In our faith, we believe one can obtain “baptism of desire” where physical baptism of water is often unable to be obtained. God understands and sees the strength of your desire to belong to Him, and no matter what happens, trust Him!

Psalm 126

1 When the lord brought back the captives of Sion, we were like men dreaming.
2 Then our mouth was filled with laughter; and our tongue with rejoicing. Then shall they say among the nations: The Lord has done great things for them.
3 The Lord hath done great things for us: we are glad indeed!
4 Restore our fortunes, O Lord, like the torrents in the southern desert.
5 They that sow in tears shall reap in joy.

6 Although they go forth weeping, carrying the seed to be sown, 7 they shall come with joyfulness, carrying their sheaves.

Anu God plants the desire to know Him and to love Him in every one of our hearts. He also gives us the gift of choice – free will – to act on that desire. You have experienced some desire. Please never ignore it – never pretend there are other “gods” – whether an official idol such as in Hinduism, or a material idol (anything we make more important than God, such as money, prestige, entertainment, and self-pleasure). Please remain true to your belief in the triune God. Continue to grow in your understanding of God and in your relationship with Him.

Yes, anything that we do willfully which separates us from God is sinful. God is most important. I encourage you to be mindful of this before getting involved in any dating relationship. Look for a man who gives highest priority to God – who is Love and who instructs us in the way of love…
