Hello everyone,
Any opinions on the Loreto Pub. edition of the Douey-Rhiems Bible? I’m looking for a portable/personal size DR Bible. Are there any others I should look at as well? I have a Haydock DR but it’s a bit large to carry around. I had considered the Baronius Press edition but read on here about there being typos in it. Any opinions/advise would be much apreciated. Thanks

I have the Loreto edition of the DR and I like it. The print is bold and easy to read. The only other DRB I have seen is the one that TAN prints, the Loreto edition is far better quality and printed in a more attractive style, in my opinion.

Any truth to the errors rumor? I have a Baronius Press edition on backorder and may change my mind if the errors are true/significant…If true, to what extent are the errors?

Thanks,

yes, I’ll get my sig soon :o

Yes, the typos rumor is true, check the reviews for this edition on amazon to evaluate how significant it is. I can confirm the ones mentioned.

I have both the Lareto and Baronius. I am not thrilled with either one. The Baronius has more whitespace, less cramped, but the Lareto has bold print against white paper and the print is classier.

The footnotes and references are harder to read with Lareto because it is more cramped. The Lareto has topic headings, which is nice.

The Baronius has a flexible cover, but it is a thick book. It would have been nice to increase the width a bit to make it thinner. Both put helps and/or pictures in between the Old and New Testaments as if it were like a “family bible”. Please put the helps in the back.

The Lareto claims to be leather, and it might be, but it is bound with an inflexible hard-cover.

My complaint against both books is that they are combersome for fast lookups.

I ended up taking the Lareto to a custom book binder. I have it rebound in geniune leather and had all the maps and pictures moved to the back. If it were just a bit bigger so the print could be less crowded I’d be even more happy, but I now have a usable Douay-Challenor. It wasn’t cheap however, $40 for the bible, $125 for the custom cover.
