Does anybody know who Dr. Kent Hovind is? All I know is he runs a dinosaur park at his house.

All I know is he runs a dinosaur park at his house.
He used to do that. But he has been in prison for the past seven years.

Quoting from a 2006 article:

*A Pensacola evangelist who owns the defunct Dinosaur Adventure Land in Pensacola was arrested Thursday on 58 federal charges, including failing to pay $473,818 in employee-related taxes and making threats against investigators.
,
Kent Hovind, who often calls himself “Dr. Dino,” has been sparring with the IRS for at least 17 years on his claims that he is employed by God, receives no income, has no expenses and owns no property.

“The debtor apparently maintains that as a minister of God, everything he owns belongs to God and he is not subject to paying taxes to the United States on money he receives for doing God’s work,” U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Lewis Killian Jr. wrote when he dismissed a claim from Hovind in 1996.
…
As part of the ministry, Hovind operated the Dinosaur Adventure Land at 5800 N. Palafox St., which included rides, a museum and a science center. He also sold literature, videos, CDs and other materials and provided lecture services and live debates for a fee.

The indictment alleges Kent Hovind paid his employees in cash and labeled them “missionaries” to avoid payroll tax and FICA requirements.*

What else did he do?

I feel bad saying this, because in some ways he seems like a nice guy… but he’s a quack.

I heard him debate Massimo Pigliucci several times.

Mr Hovind’s claim to fame is “debunking” evolution. There is a 12 hour video series in which he goes through all the scientific evidence (at the time) and explains it from a young earth creationist point of view. I’ve also seen several videos on Youtube of him debating evolutionists. In my opinion he wins everytime

As for his scientific positions, though I am by no means an expert, I find his positions to be well founded, and at the very least, thought provoking. He does seem to have some anti-Catholic views though, which is a shame.
Well, he believes that human beings and dinosaurs existed side-by-side on the Earth. So…

I personally believe there are still dinosaurs in remote corners of the earth, and that humans occassionally spot them (Loch Ness, Mokele-mbembe in the Congo, Pterodactyls).

Just like I believe in certain UFO and alien sightings to be real. Not all of them, but some.

Does NOT (repeat) NOT discredit evolution, despite what folks like Hovind say. On the contrary, it would help prove evolution.

As always-----my opinion.

Yep.

Kent Hovind is as much a doctor as I am professional ice dancer. He got his doctorate at a diploma mill.

His son currently runs the organization but lacks the charm and ortatory skills of his father.

Both Hovinds have no understanding of basic geology. I suspect their videos on the subject have been created solely to make high school graduates shout “Noooo!” at their computer monitors.
