I saw the show in question and got the same impression as the author. The segment was on whether or not condoms should be handed out in school. Dr. Phil was clearly on the side of the handing out of condoms, and even said multiple research studies show abstinence programs do not work. I’ve been a fan of Dr. Phil’s for a while, and while I’ve always thought he was a little liberal when it came to sexual ethics, I thought he’d still be pro-life. How annoying.

From a recent news article:

**DR. PHIL ENDORSES PLANNED PARENTHOOD

Mild-mannered and kind Dr. Phil (Dr. Phillip C. McGraw, PhD) does in fact support Planned Parenthood. This is strange, especially considering his evangelical childhood upbringing and his touted ethical stand on traditional morality.

Nevertheless, sometimes indirect and subtly presented, while at other times more blatantly presented, the popular Dr. Phil does support Planned Parenthood, the chief womb baby killing agency and arch enemy of all pro-life efforts.

According to LifeSiteNews.com from Los Angeles, Dr. Phil is incorrect on his “facts.” Dr. Phil emphatically states that “’if you look at the massive studies that are nationwide, if you look at the Planned Parenthood studies, the fact of the matter is that kids who go through a thorough sex education program of which making condoms available with some anonymity. . .that kids do use them when they have them.’”

Yes, this is pretty annoying, considering that I always thought that Dr. Phil was such a strong Christian. 😦

I’ve always found him annoying and condescending. I had a feeling he may have some skeletons in his closet.

Dr. Phil is depending on ratings to keep his show on. He will appeal to the majority and that is who supports Planned Parenthood. I think that power corrupts he is no exception. This is my opinion.

I have tried watching Dr. Phil but when I did I ended up just feeling angry. I can not stand talk show hosts. They are about as bad as watching the judges on t.v… I don’t like how I feel afterward.

This guy is a dope (appropriate word here 🙂 ) Let me change a few words and see how much sense it makes:

you look at the massive studies that are nationwide, if you look at the Mother Earth News (or whatever the dopers magazine of choice is) studies, the fact of the matter is that kids who go through a thorough drug education program of which making joints available with some anonymity. . .that kids do use them when they have them.

Well, is it any surprize that a guy who became popularized via Oprah would look at things in this way?

Nope! No surprises here. It is New Age nonsense and normalizing immoral behavior.

He has a very middle-of-the road approach to many things. Sometimes he is right on the button, other times he is going to appeal to the majority, as someone else pointed out. Personally, I found his weight program very helpful…but I have found his approach to substance abuse silly.

I think you hit the nail on the head. You have to pick and choose what you listen to and avoid the hero worship that some people have of Dr. Phil or Oprah. Always measure what you hear, against what we know as truth through the Catholic church.

I personally love his advice to parents in regard to raising children. But as I mentioned earlier, he never wants to speak ill of sex outside of marriage or sexual perversions (except porn, which he’s against). I guess he would alienate quite a few viewers if he did that, though, considering this country’s attitute toward premarital sex.

The only reason Dr. Phil is a “success” is because he was on Oprah - everything that woman touches turns to $$$. I think he is condescending and a downright fool. I also loathe the fact that he wrote a book about weight loss - look in the mirror lately Phil?
