I had just read Dr. Ray about the lost art of the look. Well, I thought I was pretty good with the look but then began to doubt after reading Dr. Ray. That is when I decided to try out ***the look ***instead of my look.
During prayer my 6 year old had gotten extra squirmy so I turned to her & gave her what I thought was the look, but at the exact moment of impact I knew I was doomed. Just as I felt my lips pinch up and my eyes bug open my 6 year old cracked up laughing & couldn’t stop (she’s generally responsive to my old look). I tried to be serious but as I saw Barney Fife flash through my mind, I started laughing. My 9 year old, our prayer police, questioned me for being silly during prayer when we don’t allow them to do this. I
It was a parenting disaster with a touch of humor tacked on. I hope God has a sense of humor, or should I say, now I know God has a sense of humor.
Next time there’s an occasion for a firm look I’ll remember that I’m a better parent than I think. Thanks Dr. Ray!
