Hello,

I have a friend who recently began attending seminars given by Dr. Wayne Dyer. I have seen several of Dr. Dyers’s presentations on our local public television station. I wanted to know if the material in his lecture series and books is in line with Church teaching?

I’ve also heard Dyer on TV. He’s a real New Ager who uses St. Francis of Assisi to put some credibility in what he says. Of course, he never states that St. Francis was a radical follower of Jesus but instead insisits that Francis was intouch with some “energy”!!!

There are plenty of other writers and/or presenters that are more deserving of your time.

The times Ive seen him on Tv ,Ive kind of been drawn in. I believe he talks a feel good gospell. Thats not my Gospell. Beware of the angel of lite.

The material I’ve seen on PBS is traditional gnosticism…

Amen. Second that.

I’ll add: we need to be careful to discern what is and what is not the message of Christ. Just as there is some Truth in all religions, there is some Truth in what Dyer and other feel-good New Agers spout.

I’m certainly not saying that Dyer is Satanic, but it is a common trick of the devil to lure you in with small truths and half-truths. Why risk it? Best to go to the source for your inspiration rather than the watered-down New-Agey mystical candy of Dyer and the other gurus.

I saw Johnnette Benkovic interviewed on Life on the Rock the other day. (awesome show). She cleared up a lot of my confusion about new-age stuff and neo-paganism.

She has a book out which i’ll have to add to my wish-list…

The New age Counterfeit:

Peace.

I bought and read part of one of his books, Your Erroneous Zones. It was one of the most horrible books I’ve ever read. The book was so depressing, I threw it in the trash.
