In one of Timothy (Kallistos) Ware’s books he cites or refers to an official Church pronouncement (perhaps an encyclical) that encourages Catholics to draw on the spiritual riches of the Orthodox Church. Does anyone know exactly what Ware said and on just which page of which book he said it? Also, what Church document was he referring to?

The Pope mentions “riches” here, but not explicitly in connection with drawing upon those specifically Orthodox riches.
 
He must be referring to “Orientale Lumen.”

It should be read with “Unitatis Redintegratio” and “Ut unum Sint.”
 
I believe that he is refering to the riches of the Eastern Churches, i.e Catholic and Orthodox, although you will still find some ‘rad trads’ sourly trying to claim he was only refering to the Eastern Catholic Churches. :rolleyes:
 
Is ‘Eastern Rites’ and ‘Eastern Orthodox’ being used interchangably here?
 
Our Eastern Catholic brothers and sisters are very conscious of being the living bearers of this tradition, together with our Orthodox brothers and sisters. The members of the Catholic Church of the Latin tradition must also be fully acquainted with this treasure and thus feel, with the Pope, a passionate longing that the full manifestation of the Church’s catholicity be restored to the Church and to the world, expressed not by a single tradition, and still less by one community in opposition to the other; and that we too may be granted a full taste of the divinely revealed and undivided heritage of the universal Church(2) which is preserved and grows in the life of the Churches of the East as in those of the West.

O.K. is appears within the Apostolic Letter *Orientale Lumen *that at times Eastern Orthodox and Eastern Catholic Churches were separately commented upon, then the term Eastern Christian Church was ambiguously used.

Yet the message of ecumenical cooperation between the Church of Rome and the Eastern Catholic Church was made very clear. All due consideration and respect for traditions of the Byzantine Catholic Churches will be extended. Yet the letter totally avoided the issue of married Eastern Catholic Priests, and mysteriously emphasized the comparison between the East/West monastic tradition.

The Apostolic Letter Orientale Lumen also called for the Roman Catholic Church “to offer appropriate teaching on these subjects in seminaries and theological faculties, especially to future priests.” But it failed to mention how a celibate Roman Catholic seminary will accomadate a married Byzantine Catholic Priest?

Or how should a Western Rite Catholic Christian apologist explain the existance of married Catholic Priests to an evangelical Protestant critic of Catholicism and a critic of a celibate clergy?

I’m also curious how the declarations of *Orientale Lumen *is viewed in context with Dominus Iesus?

Yes the Byzantine Catholic Church is 100% Catholic, but how is it totally equivalent to the Western Rite Catholic Church when it was of the Christian East “We have almost everything in common, (8) and above all, we have in common the true longing for unity.”?
 
Many thanks to all for the references. This seems close:

"We listen together to the cry of those who want to hear God’s entire Word. The words of the West need the Words of the East, so that God’s word may ever more clearly reveal its unfathomable riches" (Orientale lumen, n. 28).

But has no-one read Ware? Where does he discuss this matter?
