I would like to see someone post particular Bible quotes in English, chapter and verse, that show the difference between the Clementine Vulgate and the Stuttgart (drbo).

I have noticed that the Mass “In Medio” in the 1947 New Marian Missal and the old Fr. Lassance use the masculine voice for Ecclesiasticus 15:5 whereas the drbo and TAN Challoner use the feminine voice. The Challoner, otherwise, is the closest that we have found to the texts used in the Missals that were traditionally in use. I would be interested in what the Angelus Press and the Baronius Missals use since they are basically reprints of the New Marian with adjustments in the Proper of the Saints.

We are very interested in the version put forward by Dr. William von Peters (mentioned above) as well since he makes very convincing comparisons betweenst “versions” and makes the a comment that the books used in the Liturgy were the standard.

I have had the great freedom to be able to compare my 1947 New Marian to something very close to the Confraternity “version” and was able to underline the differences in my Missal and sometimes note the different words used. This shows that the versions that agree with the Confraternity (as with some Lectionaries - the book read from the lectern for the English reading of the Epistle and Gospel) use reductionary terms in places that reduce governors to officials, word to utterance (offensive when one considers that Jesus Christ is The Word), reduces temperance to sobriety, etc. while it expands in other places. It definitely reduces the number of words based on Latin (multitude is reduced to crowd…) and uses unisex language frequently.

I can see that there has been a great case of revision amongst the versions that we have seen online. Several even declare that “corrections” are on-going without noting their standard. One hopes that they mean electronic errors compared to some original.

Is the Challoner that has been published by TAN these many years the same as the version used on drbo? It is definitely assumed by some drbo visitors, meaning “Is the TAN Douay-Rheims Bible of the Clementine Vulgate or the Stuttgart version?” This is where it would be handy to have several specific standard quotes by which to compare online versions.

Thanks.
