My Girlfriend has a strange gift, if thats what it is. Every once and awhile she has dreams that do come to happen, the latest one was she was asleep and she dreamt the dog was sick and throwing up, startled she woke up no sooner the dog got up also and started throwing up. She dreamt her sister was in an accident three days before it happened, she did not see how the accident happen or the date but knew some thing was wrong and for three days kept calling home telling her sister not to go out for awhile, then she received the news after hessitation from the parents that her sister was hit by car while on her scooter, another instance involved me, she was visiting and was upset and the whole day she did not speak or spoke very little, seemed stranged but then it happen an ex-girlfriend called me and I answered, telling her I was with someone new I hung up. This is when she told me she dreamt that the girl and even knew the name of the girl was going to call and I was going to pickup. I believe this comes from her being raised by Macedonian gypsies when she was little, because her parents were out of the country looking for work, she also tells me thing that associated gypsie beliefs, like if I mention something in a dream I had.
This reminded me of the Macedonian girl in the book of Acts, where Paul exorcised a demon from the fortune telling girl. I mention my concern, but she can’t help that she gets these dreams everyonce in awhile. What else can I do?

If it seems serious to you, I would go and talk with a priest about it.

To be honest, a few rationally acceptable things are going on here.

First, your girlfriend is extremely lucky and dreams a lot about various things that aren’t out of this world, but real world occasions. Cues such as the sound of a dog throwing up can trigger a dream of the same thing, so of course, when she wakes up, she’ll see the dog puking. (The details of memories of dreams and life when you’re tired are very malleable.) It could be very possible that she dreamed about your ex just coincidentally before it actually happened. It’s all very possible. I wouldnt’ read to far into it.

Then again, your girlfriend could have a memory problem, something like deja vu, that can confuse dreams with actual memories. It can happen.

Also, your girlfriend might be desperate for attention… stretching the facts so that she can “predict the future.” I think it would be a true gift if she recorded one of her dreams in great detail and then an event happened that precisely corresponded with her dream. But from you have told us, she’s always told you about her experiences with this ability, meaning that, after the event already happened.

As far as the event with her sister, it could very well be one of those coincidences. Or perhaps her sister heard her, got really annoyed with her, and was a little less careful than she should have been.

Whether or not she has a “gift” is debatable.

There does exist in this world some who have the “gift”. The one person I know who has it is a descendant of other women who also had it to some degree. It can be in the form of dreams or an awake insight which are more predictive than average. This person has never sought after this kind of knowledge and sometimes it is a burden. Morally, unless she is seeking to know the future there is no question of sin involved when it just comes to her unbidden. The other side of this is that it can happen to people who mess around with tarot cards, ouija(sp?) boards, and New Age stuff, etc. In that case sin can be involved. To exploit such a gift to purposely foretell future events for oneself or for others, or for some sort of remuneration or fame is definitly wrong. I asked a question on Ask and Apologist about this about a year ago. It may still be in the files. It is not a gift to wish upon anyone.
