Dress code for confession?

There’s a lot of talk about what one should wear to Mass. What about confession? Same rules, or more lax?
 
I think it’s better not to obsess over outward appearances but concentrate on the condition of your soul and your relationship with God. Just dress properly for the weather and modestly within the current standards of where you live.
 
Sigh. There’s no “rules” for dressing for Mass other than dressing modestly.

You’re confessing your sins. You’re not there to impress Father with how sorry you are by the way you dress.

Go in grungy jeans and a sweatshirt and flip-flops if you want. Or even barefoot. Father sure doesn’t care.

As long as you’re modest. Like Mass – please, no bikinis. Give the poor man a break!

To grant you absolution, he needs to know you have a firm purpose of amendment.

(p.s. If you go to Confession barefoot, just watch out for those glass shards discoverd in the parking lot yesterday that haven’t yet been removed!) :banghead:

I agree with you. I don’t think it really matters what you wear to confession, unless you are really immodest. I usually wear whatever the weather calls for…jeans or shorts…usually jeans and a clean blouse, sweater, or other top of some kind. The idea is to be clean, modest and comfortable.

I would think that most/all priests would be thrilled just to see people show up, no matter what they were wearing. 😛

I usually dress more informally for Confession if I’m going to it on a different day than Mass. Yesterday I went to Confession and wore jeans. Today I went to Mass and wore dress slacks - I wouldn’t wear jeans to Mass, because they are a little too informal IMO. But it’s not a sin. As long as you are dressed modestly, it really doesn’t matter what you wear to Confession or Mass.

Around here they seem to only hear confessions once a week for a half hour or so…or by appointment.
Being a guy…it’s jeans & a shirt.I suppose girls could do the same…

The priest never sees what I’m wearing in the confessional, so it doesn’t really matter.
 
I usually try not to focus on my appearance too much when going to confession, as it gets me thinking about the wrong things(How do I look? Am I wrinkled? Do I need a haircut?). I try to wear something pretty grungy and not brush my hair too thoroughly so I’m feeling approximately as ugly as my soul is at the moment.
