On January 17th, Drew Mariani hosted a person from the Brady Institute to discuss gun control.
I missed it, and I did not get the opportunity to tape it.
Given that his guest has an obvious biased FOR gun control, and I didn’t see any guest of the opposing view on Drew’s schedule, I am suspecting Drew favors gun control.
However, I emailed him directly, he did not reply. So now I am asking anyone here if they heard his program and what they thought of it. Could you get an idea of where Drew stood on the issue? Did it appear that he was using his pulpit to promote one view or the other?
I am saddened by this as I have seen a gradual decay of Catholic radio over the past years. First they had much EWTN which was neat because the day was marked with various prayers, hymns, and masses - it was very spiritual. Then they went to a largely talk-show format, which wasn’t as good but was OK. Then they went and dumped one of my favorites, Al Kresta, to bring in Drew. At first I thought Drew was OK, just wished they didn’t bump Al for him.
But now, Drew is losing his appeal very quickly.
I wonder if he knows that the CCC does state that those of us who are responsible for the safety of others have the right to use arms to vanquish an aggressor.
I wonder if Drew knows that the CCC states that armed resistance can be legitimate if, among other conditions, there is a reasonable chance of success? If you read all the conditions for armed resistance, the one about reasonable chance of success is the ONLY one in which an oppressive tyrant can render resistance immoral by being more oppressive. All the other criteria allow the tyrant to thwart the resistance by taking actions towards ameliarating the people’s conditions.
I wonder if Drew realizes that same enemy who seeks to remove religious expression from the public arena, views radio airwaves as public property! I wonder if Drew realizes that it may be me, and my gun (and millions like me) that ultimately stands against that tyrant who tries to silence the voice of Catholic Radio. I pray to God that day will never come, but Drew is not helping to stall the progress of the enemy.
