These days I think it depends where you live - in rural areas, I’m told it’s still done since people are more likely to be at home (on farms, etc) whereas in urban areas - good luck finding people at home during the day. A priest also pointed out to me that it’s important to be prudent in accepting invitation to dinner etc in order to avoid any impression of favouritism amongst parishioners.
