I have listened to the Eagles since 1976 and a still big fan.
I often hear that their music is said to be satanic and I can’t seem shake that off.
Is it wrong to listen to them even though it doesn’t seem satanic to me .I find alot of the lyrics are very poetic and often a statement of some sort.
For instance the song Hotel California ,the people who wrote the song said it was about the constant touring , staying in hotels which was burdensome and being provided with supplies of drugs and booze. Then there people claim it is about Hell.
Life in the fast lane ,the songwriters saying it is about everything in their lives is spinning out of control , with loads of money , women and a accelerated pace of life. Some people claim it is a spiral into Hell.
Alot of the Eagles songs are about the evils of society , the wrong kind of love, hurt and hitting out at politicians and politics.

I enjoy Eagles music. I have their “Very Best Of…” cd. So long as you enjoy it and know that it is just “words and music” there is nothing wrong.
You can take any song by any artist and find something “wrong” with it. As far as I am concerned, sit back, listen, and enjoy !

Marilyn Manson and Tool music is satanic, not the Eagles. Eagles’ music probably speaks of their own “personal Hell,” whereas Tool and Manson openly mock Jesus and Mary while sympathizing with Satan in their music. I wouldn’t worry about the Eagles in that respect. I like their music a lot. “Desperado” was the first song I learned how to play in the guitar. 🙂

There have been kids who were inspired to kill people from Black Sabbath lyrics, Manson, and other shock rock bands, but I doubt that anyone had that urge from hearing “Witchy Woman.” 😉

Aaaah!!! The Eagles!!! One of the best bands in popular music!!!

In all the years of listening to them, I never once thought that their music was satanic or evil. The ones that do are probably not particularly fond of facing their own evil in their lives.

I saw them over ten years ago at their “Hell Freezes Over” tour in Orange County, CA. The name of the tour kinda gives it a redemptive-sort of quality, don’t it?..especially after all the turmoil, both within each person of the band and with the band, have gone through.

 “Whoa woo whooaa, sweet darlin’…you get the best of my love…”
👍

They are my most favorite band of all time. I can remember when Hotel California was at the top of the charts. If you listen to the lyrics of that song, it can be misconstrued as talking about the satanic church in california, but I dont really feel so. I agree with a previous poster in saying that it was their private hell of being on the road and being trapped by the popularity and lifestyle of popular musicians and entertainers. BTW, they recently did a reunion concert in Australia where they did all their hits…ALL OF THEM. It also had interviews and soundbites of the way the group members felt. Too bad I didnt have my VCR set ro record it, it was wonderful. Their songs are very poetic if you really listen to them. IN fact I have the original LP vinyl record of Hotel CAlifornia.

Satanic? THE EAGLES? Please.

I have been to the “Standing on the Corner Monument” in Winslow, Arizona. Silly, but fun.

I like The Eagles. I have several albums. Satanic? Never crossed my mind. My Brother saw them this past year in concert and said their performance was perfect but he could have done without the political rant. That’s why I don’t go to concerts anymore. I wish the musicians would just “shut up and sing” and leave politics out. What makes them think I have a need to know their political views? I guess musicians and “stars” have such self importance that they think we can’t think for ourselves and need help from them. Oh, sorry for MY rant!😉

About 20 years ago, there was this frenzy of activity in fundamentalists circles of reading satanic messages into popular songs (this was also during the time they were playing records backwards, finding similar messages in “backward masking” This pretty much died out after it was pointed out that a similar result could be gotten by backwards of playing traditional gospel songs like “Amazing Grace”). I remember specifically these folks at that time singling out “Hotel California” --and by extension all Eagles songs–as being in this category.

Like the previous poster said, you can read any message you like into most popular music. All that’s usually required is an agenda.

The Eagles ROCK!

“For instance the song Hotel California ,the people who wrote the song said it was about the constant touring , staying in hotels which was burdensome and being provided with supplies of drugs and booze. Then there people claim it is about Hell.”

This is kind of like fundie protestants who come up to you and say,“The Catholic Church teaches this,” or “the Catholic Church teaches that” and you, as a fairly well-informed Catholic, kind of go,“Whaaaa???” The Catholic Church knows what it teaches and the guys who wrote the song “Hotel California” know what the song means. They’re the ones to whom we should pay attention.

The Catholic Church ROCKS!

The Eagles are awesome. I know how to fake Hotel California on the guitar so that it sounds like I know the intricate pickwork, but I really need to go and learn it. They are awesome. Every single song is great!

mylittle brother is a huge fan and so is my computer teacher… now I like them too!

I love the Eagles. They are doing a concert in my small town on Saturday. There are 3500 people in my town. We are expecting 15,000 to come to the concert. I am staying in my house with my shades drawn. Nothing will make me leave my house this weekend. If I could even get out of my driveway with the traffic.

Tickets are going for $450 a pair. I love the Eagles a lot, but there is a limit!!

As stated by most others, I love the Eagles! As far as their music, I was thinking the same thing about Billy Joel. He criticizes Catholics in “Only the Good Die Young” but I still love his songs. My kids, 11 and 8, love songs by the Eagles and Billy Joel. I’m so proud!
Excuse me while I go get my cd’s. I suddenly have the urge to “rock out”. :dancing:

When I drove from Indiana to Monterey, CA, in 1975 to attend my intermediate USAF language course, I stopped in Winslow Arizona and had lunch at a drugstore on a corner. Just because of that song 😃

I think that some of the members of the eagles particularly the lead singer Don Henley and Glenn Frey have an affinity to what happened to the American Indians throughout their history ,this shows in the song The Last resort where the settlers (White men) have come and raped the land off the Indians and general made a mess of the area. They are referring to California.
The point I am making here is that some say a creation of hell.

The interesting aspect of the song Hotel Califoria was inspired by an ex Eagle Don Felder (Suberb guitarist) ,he was plucking away on his guitar and came up with the guitar part for the song. Don Felder was not a lyrist , and Don Henley and Frey came up with the words. At the time Henley was getting goose bumps off one of Steely Dan’s songs and came up with a reggae touch. Frey said said to Felder whats that your’e playing and they hooked into it straight away and became Hotel California.
Don henley at the time was feeling with the hotel scene was awful and borrowed some the the words from Steely dan but into his own words.
I thought you might find this interesting.
I’ll keep you posted on the other songs I may know of about.

Joe walsh wrote the song “One day a time” .He is a recovering alcoholic and “One day a time” is an essential motto for him a stay away from the drink.

“Hole in the world” is a reflection upon the events of Sept 11th. Appropiate as it sounds.

It may come as a surprise to some to know that I have prayed that the Eagles would perform christian based songs and find in their hearts “Jesus”.
