Happy Easter to all!

It happens every year. My wife and I and our two kids (9, 15) faithfully attend the Easter Triduum services. On Holy Saturday, when the Gloria is sung and the bells ring; when the Alleluia thunders throughout the Church and most especially when the deacon proclaims the Gospel (“He is not here, He is risen just as he said”), I start trembling, my eyes tear up and when I try to join in the singing, there’s a lump in my throat.

There is something mystical about hearing the Gospel at this liturgy. It is as if I’m actually taken back in time to the empty tomb. It is as if, I’m running just behind the women on their way back to the disciples to tell them He is risen indeed.

It is then that this miserable sinner can mumble ‘I love you, Lord.’

I always walk out of the church with two things: a refilled bottle of Easter holy water and a soggy hankerchief.

Peace to all and Happy Easter!

Joe

I have the same feeling at the Gloria. it also takes me back to when i was an altar boy and had the statue of St Joseph rocking on his pedastal as i used a long pole to try and snag the purple cloth covering him.
