I’m finishing up RCIA this year and being received into the Church this Easter Vigil. I’m going to have protestant relatives coming to the service that are going to be really confused on what all these “crazy catholics” are doing.😃 Does anybody know of any good websites or other information I can give them to help prepare them and give them an understanding of what is happening and why? Thanks ahead of time!

somebody else will post good links so I will check back in a while, but rest assured, after the lighting of the Paschal Fire and procession, we begin with 9 readings, covering all of salvation history from the OT, so they will be right at home, and all that scripture should reassure them we are not that wacky. Of course, the litany of saints may raise some questions. If they do baptism by immersion they should be excited to see that in a Catholic Church. The profession of faith is the Creed we should all share. Of course our understanding of the Eucharist is and will always be their biggest hang-up, so all you can do is explain to the best of your ability.

shag a missalette from the back of church, and help them learn to follow along, but reassure them they can stand, sit or kneel as they feel comfortable doing. If you want to introduce someone to the Catholic liturgy this is certainly the time and place to do it. Sister of a young man received into the Church last Easter was the only one in his family who attended–she has just called asking about RCIA for herself.

Hello! I am so happy for you!

The Easter Vigil is a delight!

From the US Catholic Bishops

It is truly a wonderful experience and I am sure your relatives will be very impressed at the joy-filled Easter Vigil!

Congratulations and welcome! The Easter Vigil Mass is a wonderful introduction to the Faith as has been posted. Don’t fret. The Mass is packed with Scripture (besides the readings) and will be familiar to those familiar with Scripture.:bible1:

Welcome home! I’d be amazed if the Exsultet doesn’t get your relatives fired up. This is my absolute favorite part of the entire Liturgical year.

If your church has misalettes take one and give them a tour through it.
