Easter Vigil Readings

I know there is at least one book around, published by Ave Maria Press, that splits the readings of the Vigil into parts (each of these 9 readings into 3 parts). In fact, I’m looking at it right now. A first edition was published in 1974 and an expanded version in 1984.

Doesn’t make it less an abuse, but sometimes people find these books on a shelf and think “Oh, what a great idea,” and run with it without knowing any better. And I suppose some might think, “Well, if 3 readers are good, 7 might be even better.”

As for omitting the Psalm, I don’t know about this recent edition of the Roman Missal but the last edition had an option for a silent reflection instead of a Psalm between readings. We sometimes made use of that period of silence when we didn’t have someone to sing a particular psalm (our parish has no one who can carry all seven, we take turns).

So I was looking back over the Exodus reading; and I think it was the canticle that was sung. (it’s the last two lines of the reading; correct?) How’s the proper way to do the canticle? Is it appropraite to have it breack the reading into multiple parts, be announced by clapping, sung by the whole congregation, and replace the psalm? Or is it to be sung at the end of the reading, before the psalm or moment of silence?

I feel like breaking the reading up into parts to conform to the singing is not liturgically correct. It should be the reading, the psalm, and then the prayer.
