Anybody have Easter Vigil scheduled at their parish to end as the sun rises?

How does that work out?

We tried to get that going in my parish this year but the choir wasn’t willing to come at that time so the pastor gave up on the idea, much to my dismay.

One parish I know of does this. The first year they tried it they thought they might have only a handful of parishioners show up but their church was as full as ever and it’s been that way every Vigil. IIRC, they then have a parish breakfast.

Actually, the Paschal Vigil was a NOCTURNAL Vigil, starting before midnight.

Well, yes, but probably if they won’t come for 2 hours starting at 4 am, it will be tough to sell them on 6 hours starting at midnight.

Still, anyone who starts their Vigil at any time during the night, but so that it ends at sunrise, are welcome to chime in. I’m very curious about the idea.

Our parish in Colorado has started the Vigil Mass at about 4:00AM for the last 7 years. We have a large bonfire outside (people gather around 3:30) and then all process into the church. We have lots of Chatecumins and Candidates (usually between 70-90), and the church is always packed. People bundle up their kids, and they usually sleep through the first portion of readings. It is really wonderful to do the baptisms at dawn. It certainly makes a big impression on those joining the Church. When we had only toddlers at home, we would have a babysitter sleep overnight, but then we just started taking the kids.
