Easter vigil time?

OK, now I get it, but in this day and age all one needs to do is check online for sunset time for any date, anywhere in the world. Father needs to make no calls.

He kept the electrial lights off, with candles in hands of parishioners, during *part *of the reading of Genesis; as per usual, I suppose. Our Pastor is in his 70’s: born in Hitler’s Germany … actually lived in Yugoslavia during that horrible era. He’s considered to be more traditional, and, Latin has been sung throughout Lent, here.

I like this quote from Belloc:

Actually, the Genesis account was sung, this year; the lights came on at the birth of Christ … if my memory of it from other years is correct. So lights may not have come on until 8:30 PM and that may have been just fine for our Pastor!

My Latin missal states:
“The hour for the beginning of this solemn service should be selected so that the Mass of the Resurrection may begin about midnight; but…”
This makes the most logical sense to me in that Jesus was crucified on Friday, we mourn His death on Saturday, and on Sunday, the third day, we celebrate His rising from the dead. So to celebrate the Resurrection (via the Resurrection Mass) when it is still Saturday just doesn’t sit well in my head.
(Our O.F. parish begins the Easter vigil at 8:00 pm, this year out in a cold, cold wind.)
