No, I am Roman. I have been attending Liturgy at the Byzantine church for the past few months, and it appeals to me much more. I really believe that if I had been raised Byzantine, I would have gone into the priesthood. I was always lacking something in the Roman church…but the Byzantine church has it.Couple of questions.
Are you canonically a member of a Byzantine Catholic Church?
That would determine which Byzantine Catholic Eparchy’s vocation director you would contact.
You will need to canonically change the Church you belong to, the pastor at the Byzantine parish you attend can help you with this. No, I am Roman. You might be able to be bi-ritual. To actually change is not very common, your Latin Bishop must release you and the Bishop of the Byzantine jurisdiction would need to accept you. Same as now but you would be trained in a Latin seminary not a Byzantine seminary. And I presume that if I were to – hypothetically – go to a Roman seminary and then be ordained, that transfer to the Byzantine rite is not likely? The priest at the parish I attend was ordained in Latin-rite.
