Eastern Catholics transferring to Latin Rite

Are there any Eastern Catholics out there in forum-land who have transferred to the Latin Rite?

Or do any of you know of any Eastern Catholics who have transferred Rites?

I am just interested in hearing about people who have gone from Eastern to Latin.

I already have heard a little bit about people who transfer from Latin to Eastern, now I am interested in people who transfer from Eastern to Latin.

Please tell me about your experiences.

Other than a person doing it for the sake of their spouse, I can’t possibly imagine a reason why someone would transfer rites and leave the ancient Byzantine liturgy for the Novus Ordo. But that’s just me.

I understand your point to be sure, although I’m attracted to stay in the Latin rite because the Novus Ordo needs to be used properly and improved. I’d like to lend my talents, especially as a priest, to beautifying the celebration of the existing Roman liturgy. I am also so deeply attracted by the pastoral challenges of the Roman Catholic Church.
 
Well, I actually went ‘full circle’, although it started out not for me to leave the Byzantine Rite.

I was baptized and confirmed Byzantine after my birth. Then around age 6, when it was my age to go to kindergarten, there wasn’t a Byzantine Grade School. SO my mother had us go to Latin Rite School.

From 1967 to 1984, I was in the Roman Rite. From 1985-1997, I left the Church totally. Came back from 1997 to 2002 in the Latin Rite and now been back to my 'Baptismal Rite since 2002.

I’ve experienced both rites but really do prefer the Byzantine Rite. So when I left Byzantine for Latin, I wasn’t old enough to know the reason why we left. But coming back is SO much sweeter! :cool:
 
I was also thinking along the lines of people who transferred from Byzantine to Latin Rite specifically for the Tridentine Mass, which in my humble opinion is richer than the Novus Ordo.

Anyone else out there to say anything about this?

My guess would be that there are far more Byzantine Catholics who worship within the Latin Church but have not changed Rites.

There is no need to change Rites for most people.

That is that the reasons to change Rites are very few and individual.

I must say though, not liking the Mass or any negative feelings about the Church one belongs to will end up in your request to change Rites being denied. So will mentioning that you wish to seek ordaination to the priesthood as a married man.

Right, usually the idea of transferring one’s Church usually occurs if someone who visits an Eastern rite parish considers the priesthood. As all priests serve under a single bishop, and for a single church (unless they are granted biritual faculties for any period of time), they must celebrate the liturgies of their particular church, and not those of other Catholic churches. In the above example, a future priest in love with the Byzantine liturgy must first tansfer to a Byzantine-rite church to be trained for the Byzantine priesthood.

Did you actually transfer rights back and forth? By that I mean, did your bishops let you switch or did you just attend one or the other?

Most regretfuly the rules for changing Rites are among the most Violated Rules in the Catholic church.Missguided latin priests who allow eastern rite Catholics to become latin rite ,is the worst.
Orthodox christians that convert to Catholocism are to join their equivilant Rite.They are not sapose to become latins !

That’s one of the reasons.

It is interesting to note though, you do not have to change rites to join a Latin religious order.

It seems like one doesn’t need to change rites to join an Eastern religious order either, such as these guys,

According to the site they are all in the Latin Rite.
 
Does anyone out there know of anybody who transferred from Byzantine Rite to Latin Rite, the specific reason being that they loved the Tridentine Mass?
