They do in fact get into a lather over it. I stumbled across a crazy site once full of the typical “anti-Christ” and end-times rhetoric with photos of the “snake worshippers” all over the place…there sure are some crazies out there. I’ll fish around and see if I can find it again 😃

Is this the site you are talking about?

I linked to my favorite page. Some of the most ridiculous stuff I’ve ever seen.

Actually it shows how ignorant they are, they don’t have a clue that the Orthodox Church is not the Catholic Church.

I guess they couldn’t find enough pictures of Catholics worshiping idols so found some Orthodox ones instead.

These sites are so hateful and I wonder when they are standing before the Lord what shall He say to them. I’ll trust my Catholic faith anyday over this un Christian behavior.

Of course my friend. I’ve had to explain this several times on another forum I used to frequent because of the cross in my signature. I was told several times that it had Satanic symbols in it. The explanation really couldn’t be anymore simple.

The emblem in my signature is called a Schema Cross and is worn by some Orthodox monastics. Jesus was crucified on Golgotha, the place of skull. Tradition says it’s the place Adam’s skull was buried. In fact on some Russian crosses you will see acronyms at the bottom that mean “Skull of Adam” and “The Place of Skull has become Paradise.”

So there you have it. Some Protestants are so consumed by their anti-Catholic hatred that they can’t even slow down to see what’s right in front of their faces. 😉

I think my favorite part of that site is where a picture of some Orthodox priests are shown, and the author claims that they are Russian popes. Yeah, because we all know that not only does the Orthodox Church have a pope, but that the Orthodox Church has plenty of them…

I don’t know the official meaning of the serpent crozier, so this is just a guess of mine, but perhaps it has to do with the prophecy in Genesis that "He will crush your head [Christ] and you will strike his heel [The Serpent, Satan]? The serpent in that picture seems to be attacking the cross, through which Christ destroyed its power. I also second the suggestion that the bronze serpent which was attached to the pole to heal the people in Numbers is another possibility.

I really do sympathize with Catholics for the outrageous attacks they endure from radical Protestants. I’ve seen similar reactions to Orthodoxy as well. I went on a date once with a Pentecostal girl, and she asked me what Orthodoxy was, what we believed, etc. When I told her, she said she didn’t consider me to be Christian, and we couldn’t date any more. Since then I’ve found myself a wonderful Catholic girl, and I couldn’t be happier!

Indeed, you Orthodox Christians seem to have the fortune of being less well known. Protestants will rail on and on about Catholicism, but if you ask many of them what they think of the Orthodox Church all you get is a blank stare. You’d think they’d be a bit more willing to raise objections, given as how many of the practices they dislike are shared by both Catholic and Orthodox Churches. 🤷
